“Leverkusenerbrücke’’ – Transito is the connecting factor

In collaboration with various parties, Transito is the connecting factor in a project that plays a crucial role in the German road network. This involves the construction of two new bridges connecting the A1 over the Rhine. The current Rhine bridge is in poor condition and has been closed to freight traffic for about ten years. The goal of the new bridges is to ensure a reliable road. It is also essential that all traffic, including freight traffic, can travel via this route to Dortmund and Koblenz. This eliminates the need for a large amount of freight traffic to detour to alternative bridges.

The first bridge will be open to car and freight traffic by the end of January 2024. Transito was entrusted with supplying the parts for the new bridge and played a connecting role in this process. In the beginning of 2022, thirteen ships sailed to Leverkusen on behalf of Transito with construction parts, to assemble the bridge into a cohesive whole. In this article is a photo of the motor vessel Sonia delivering the final parts in the middle of the bridge, using spud poles. You can also see the motor vessel Isar, where the bridge sections were placed directly from the hold.
